I was just reading this review on the album...and all I can say is wow..that was harsh...
While I can somewhat understand where the reviewer is coming from, at the same time, I don't think anyone can fully understand or appreciate Eric's music unless you know where he is coming from. When Eric talks about his music and this album, his passion and hard work shines through. Doing the music he likes and for his fans is what makes this album unique.
Who cares if the songs don't flow into each other or the arrangements are different and quirky, that's why we love and appreciate his music...and others don't. All I can say is I've loved everything I've heard so far and I'm not complaining... Hope Eric keeps on doing what he does...cos that's how I like it!
"..I wouldn't be who I am today, if not for those I've loved along the way..."
Uh Chris......you and Eric flip each other off all the time lol.
I figure - not everyone is going to love Eric....like you said - even negative press works...
He is certainly unique in his approach to music....I do think that's why he draws who he draws as fans....and I'm not worrying about what critics say....i've gone from watching him play for 200 people to playing to 2,000 and now to 20,000. Not bad...not bad at all. :)
I'm so proud of and excited for our boys! :)
I'm saving the album for after the acoustic show on the 26th. That being said, I don't think it was a particularly harsh review. Three out of five stars, and kudos for his songwriting and vocals....I think the critic probably hasn't seen a live ECB show, and may be a little taken aback by the energy. When Rolling Stone's review comes out, then I'll be listening...
"like" (if I had one of those facebook "like" buttons.) :)
I will say this over and over again.....once critics start criticizing ECs music and albums, this is a GREAT thing! At least he is big enough to get noticed and negative attention is just as good as positive attention.
Who would want to live in a world where *everyone* loved EC as much as we do? Not me. Bring it on and we will be more than happy to sit back, look in the rear view mirror and salute them with my middle finger in a few short months!
The writer complained about Eric going from "country to light rock to metal to bluegrass and back again" Thats what I like most about this album.. nothing is regular or normal and you just can't find that anywhere else. Then they use CMJ as an example, and that is probably my favorite song, in part because of all the different sounds in it. I feel the same way about Creepin' cuz it does the same sort of thing.
I share my EC music with so many people, and it's easy for people to get into because it's not typical country music. I have a cousin who'd rather be shot dead than listen to anything country, but he def rocks the EC sometimes... thats one(of the many) reasons the Chief is so badass.
So eff "critics", I don't understand them anyways, everyone likes different stuff. :)
I don't think I'm ready to label Karlie Justus as a critic...
Eric has acknowledged that he's pushing the envelope on this album. I think that the production is outstanding on this album and that he knows full well what he's doing with the music. I honestly think that Eric's trying to break the typical country singer/songwriter mold and forge his own path.
This is evident in how his albums have progressed. Where EC goes from here is anybody's guess but I honestly think that if people are looking for country standards, they're going to be disappointed.
In my opinion, Eric is tearing down the genre walls and bringing something to the table that's never been done before. So keep up the good work EC and don't let the "critics" discourage you. You're a real artist and you're taking things where you want to take them!
I don't understand the whole thing about the songs going together - who wants that? It seems to me if an album has a "theme", you're locked into writing songs just for that theme. I truly LOVE this album - I've just been listening to the clips on the preview on iTunes and already I can't wait to have it.
We can see it coming - he's getting bigger and bigger, getting more and more radio time - his time is coming. Get your meet & greets now people!! :)
~*tip toeing in*~
*disclaimer-I LOVE Eric and anyone who knows me knows this*
I actually have to agree w/the "too much noise, can't hear the vocals" comment (not an exact quote mind you)....there are parts of a couple songs where the music absolutely over powers his vox. Even my 11yo commented on it.
The album is scattered....but uh....that's Eric lol.
Also Springsteen....lol.....I'm going to duck, run and hide after this comment...reminds me alot of Taylor Swift's "Tim McGraw".
wait before I run and hide.....Eric has *NEVER EVER* played to the critics or radio/media...he plays for himself and his fans and that is what matters and that's why we LOVE him♥
Ok - running and hiding now
Well, that critic can just kiss my a$$! Why would you want all the songs to sound the same?? The album only shows that his talent stretches across different music genres and he can handle it. ENOUGH SAID! Grrrr
