I cannot speak for the original poster; however, I was a member prior to presale/tour announcements. My account had to be reset to 12/06 membership because of the screw up/ticketmaster code issue.
Maybe I just plan ahead too much but I would definitely have (1) purchased the membership as soon as the tour was announced if I was not already a member and (2) logged in to check for presale instructions and code WAY ahead of time to ensure the presale process would be seamless.
I will keep the issues in mind people are having now in case I ever decide to join another fan club for a presale, et cetera.

I find it unfair (original poster) that you would be so brazen as to use the term "scam". Come on, let's be reasonable.
It is fair to say that there are a few glitches with this new site. I know many are working hard to get it right. But scam?? A bit drastic, dontcha think? The site may not be perfect, but there is some ressponsibility that lies within the user.
I joined the choir well in advanced. I asked questions to helpful, experienced people like Drew & others about the "procedures", codes, etc. I knew what show I wanted to go to - got online at 10am sharp - had already found my TICKETMASTER CODE (which was right where I was told it would be) and thank goodness - got 2 VIP's Floor Center.
Glitches happen and I hate it for folks that have problems. I ESPECIALLY hate it for folks like the long time choir members whose system messed. So sorry, you guys! :(
But accusatory slander of scam is uncalled for and unnecessary.
I was a lucky one- no glitch. I even called to verify. But, if you live in the real world - and one dominated by computers - nothing is perfect. Breaking news: all fan clubs have presale glitches.
I'm sorry you felt this was an exception or that you were the only one who experienced a problem. Maybe ya need to put a drink in your hand and you'll feel better :)

The reason we don't sign up for the fan club before is we have busy lives and we don't know when Eric Church is coming to our area. It would be helpful if the concert dates were released with several weeks notice before the tickets go on sale...not notification the day that they go on sale. My wife emailed me today that Eric announced the Nashville date...and low and behold, the presale is already underway.
I just joined and don't see a presale password yet. Hopefully soon.

Ditto...took me 3 hours to get my code, and by the time I got the code I could only buy ONE ticket. Ridiculous.
Everyone will probably jump on here and tell you the code is instantaneous and all you have to do is click on your user name/get ticketmaster code. However, I am one of many where that code was simply NOT THERE.
Ultimately, I contacted MCN and the did something to my account so I could get the code (after I sent them a copy of my membership receipt). Too little too late and now my membership was worthless in terms of participating in presale non-VIP tickets.
