Okay, I just have to get this off my chest and I figured this was as safe of place as any....
I have had ENOUGH of so called country music "stars" recording songs that quite frankly insult my intelligence of what good country music actually is! Not only country music, but music in general. What has me so pissed off? Well let me tell you...
I stumbled across the new Paisley album the other day (that should say it all right there, but i'll keep going). How some of the songs on this album made it past the producers and record labels is beyond me. I won't go down the list, but just look it up and listen to a little gem called "Facebook Friends" ........... I'll wait .......... Tell me you don't want to delete your facebook account immediately for even being associated with this mud!!! Now listen to "accidental racist"........... enlightening moment of silence........... Not only do you feel dumber for having listened to this garbage, but you probably feel slightly more racist as well. Possibly even against your own race. And no having LL Cool J rap at the end does not it any better since he hasn't produced anything good since the first time I saw him lick his lips when I was 5 yrs old! Now would be a good time to break out some Eric Church (fittingly,nI went straight to Lotta Boot) and bathe yourself in real music. You don't want to catch what the majority of country music fans have already passed around. To be fair, it's not only Paisley that has this knack for making one or two semi-good songs on a record, releasing them, then duping the public to buy the entire album that is full of filler songs that shouldn't be anywhere close to a recording studio! Even the so called "best in the business" do this too (some more than others). It all comes down to dollars in the end to these artists..... It must, right?!?!
I guess my real problem is that we the Choir aren't doing a good enough job educating music fans on what you get when you buy an Eric Church album or concert ticket. If we were, he would win every award he was up for, and completely change the direction the industry is moving, which is backward at the moment. I can honestly tell you that each and every song that is on any of his albums makes me feel something that either I didn't know I felt, or I knew I felt it, but I couldn't have said it any better than the Chief himself. So thank you Eric for taking your time with your creative process to ensure that we know you take your job and your fans seriously. And for being about the music, not fame or money! For this, I respect your work more and more every day! I guess that's what has me so fired up to begin with.
So here's my plan... The next time I get the opportunity to go to an EC concert, i'm buying 2 extra tickets for my friends that have never seen him. The next EC album, i'm buying extra copies to give to friends that don't have an EC album yet. I encourage you to do the same or whatever you can so we can keep this man kicking our ass for as long as possible.
*Far be it from me to tell you how to feel about one singer vs. the other, this is merely my opinion on what i'm being fed by country music today. Long live the Chief!
Preach to the Church Choir, golden!! Hard to find the artists that do it for the music instead of the money. Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Lady A, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan all sound like Pop/Adult Contemporary music... I turn it off the minute it comes on the radio or GAC/CMT. I can't wait to see the faces on the Chesney fans when EC hits the stage tomorrow in NJ. He'll rock them right out of that shitty pop/crap country music, media induced coma!!!
well said..i cant stand commercial country stations up here in new england..thats why i listen to WSM ONLINE
Right on Golden!!! I'm glad to hear somebody tell it like it is! The new trend of country rap is complete garbage and I feel confident EC will NEVER go down that path! I'm tired of turning on country radio and listening to sellouts like luke bryan and blake Shelton rapping! So your not the only one that needed to vent..
Great post golden, could not have said it any better myself...
I couldn't have said this better myself. It sounds very similar to one of my facebook rants.
