Help Eric's mom in the fight against diabetes
Hello! I'm Rita Church, Eric's mother, and would like to ask for his fans help in raising awareness and money for a cause Eric, myself, and our family are very passionate about, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and upcoming Walk to cure diabetes.
Next week, March 27th in Hickory, NC I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $100 million.
At the age of 52 I was diagnosed with type 1, diabetes. It is very rare for someone my age to get the devastating news that you will be giving insulin shots, checking your blood sugar 4+ times a day, watching and counting the carbohydrates and sugar you eat, and being aware of all the complications that are caused due to high blood sugar. It is believed that a virus attacked my pancreas and caused it to stop producing insulin. I deal with these issues on a daily basis. There are 13,000 children in the U.S. diagnosed with type 1 diabetes every year. Some of these children begin this journey when they are just a few months old.
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1 billion to diabetes research worldwide. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes. And the great news is for the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime!
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
