ERIC CHURCH TO TAPE DEBUT PERFORMANCE FOR “AUSTIN CITY LIMITS” ON SEPTEMBER 23 Taping Will Be Part the “ACL” 40th Anniversary Season NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 04, 2014) – Multi-platinum country music superstar Eric Church will tape his debut performance for “Austin City Limits” on Sept. 23, 2014 as part of the ground-breaking music program’s 40th anniversary season. The television show is taped live before a concert audience at the venue ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin, Texas, and will air nationally on PBS Television on a date to be revealed later. “Eric Church is working on a level that few other country artists of his generation can touch,” said Ken Tucker at NPR Music in his review of Church’s new album The Outsiders, which recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top Country Album Chart. “Shrewd, defiant, sly and funny, Eric Church has succeeded in what he set out to do: He's using the power he's accrued from…
The Outsiders Album Review Notable Quotes “. . . not just the most consistent male country star of his generation but one of the brightest lights in any genre.” --Jody Rosen, New York Magazine “The Outsiders, is, in keeping with the pattern, his best yet; it’s also his most blustery, with the guitars and the outlaw swagger turned up, as the poet said, to eleven.” --Jody Rosen, New York Magazine “He's the most exciting, sonically fearless singer in Nashville.” – Rob Harvilla, SPIN (February cover story) “The guy who hates the term "outlaw" and still gets it all the time. The guy even people who don't like country like; the guy everyone else loves, unless he has (inadvertently, he would insist) insulted you personally, which is always possible. The guy so divisive he's a uniter.” – Rob Harvilla, SPIN…

Spin.com takes an inside look at Eric's writing process for The Outsiders. "The original plan was to shoot guns or ride four-wheelers (or both, simultaneously), but instead, we have gathered here today on Eric Church's land to watch one of country music's biggest and/or baddest superstars spread deer musk on trees. This was his idea — his way of fulfilling the Manly Activity requirement of our time together." Read more at spin.com

Welp, this guy gets to do whatever the hell he wants now, so please enjoy a full Black Sabbath album distilled down to 60 seconds at the end of this fantastically standoffish backwoods-metal ode to an outsider status he's way, way, way too industry-anointed to actually claim anymore, but that's what makes Eric Church just the best. This sounds hilarious on country radio. Yearbook quote: "The players gonna play / And the haters gonna hate / And a regulator's born to regulate!" Next stop is the East Side Motel. R.H.
