This will be my first Eric Church concert. I am so excited to see him. Have been a fan for a long time. Love all of his music. I apllied for a meet and greet as well, but was denied this time. I'm hoping for one at the Dec 1 show in Huntington. I plan to attend that show as well. Looking forward to seeing Eric.

Mother Nature

As awsome as Eric is, I know that he can't control the weather. After spending $140 for two tickets, driving 6 hours from Charleston, SC, and booking a hotel, tonight was a huge let down. I wish I could have at least heard Country Music Jesus. Hope everyone else made it home safely!! Has anyone heard about ticket refunds?

Bigj1100's picture

Bluefield, WV

Traveled from Panama City, Florida to watch this concert. Had a lot of faith that this would be a really good one. Though I know that you cannot control the weather, I felt that this concert really should have continued. No safety issues an the rain only lasted MAYBE 10 minutes. Something needs to be done to make it right, a lot of upset fans right now! I have a lot respect for you so please don't let us fans down.

Tonight was a total bummer.

Tonight was a total bummer. :( Drove 2 hours there and didn't get to hear Jake Owen or "Eric Church". I was really looking forward to this concert. They could have went on with the concert after the short rain shower passed. There were alot of mad and unhappy fans there, especially after the radio people come on stage and tell us the show will go on, but we have to evacuate you guys, but don't worry you will be back in to see the show. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So mad, and then they don't even let you know that they aren't letting you back in (after sitting in parking lot for an hour waiting on the storm to pass) and that the concert has been cancelled and they don't know if we will or can get refunds or if it will be rescheduled. I understand they can't do anything about the weather, but they better do something to make it right with the fans!!!!!

jennayers73's picture

The concert was a huge

The concert was a huge dissapointment. There was no control whatsoever in the seating. The so called premium seats we had were a joke. All you could see was the back of the equipment stages and the canopies. Could only see about 1/2 inch of stage. Not to even mention the weather. I drove 2 hours and paid 150.00 to see Eric Church and the show was cancelled with no refunds. Very dissapointed fan at this point. Am seriously rethinking the Huntington show.

DDCJSC's picture

Worst experience EVER!

I've been to a bunch of concerts but this was by far the worst EVER! We drove an hour and a 1/2 and I feel like for nothing. Got trampled leaving the stadium, bad cut on my foot that bled the whole mile walk to car in rain and wind. I know you can't control the weather but the stadium was a mad house no organization nobody directing anybody. I don't know if I would go back to this place. What's going on? Reschedule or refund?

allie's picture

SO Disappointed

I was so disappointed. This was my son's first concert ever. Our family and friends (11 total) drove 4* hours to see Eric Church and all we got to see was Lee Brice. It would be awesome to get a refund or voucher of some sort to attend another concert. I am sure that this would ease the disappointment of many current and future fans. I totally realize that none of us are in control of the weather, but I as am sure alot of people would be thankful for the opportunity to be able to get a refund to attend a future concert (which by the way will be in Roanoke, which is SO much closer to our home)or atleast a voucher to use your ticket from this West Virginia Concert that sadly turned out to be a total flop. Thnak you for your consideration.

Lousy job by stadium officials

None of what happened last night was Eric's fault personally, but... This show was a miserable experience from start to finish. Our so-called "premium" seating gave us a view of nothing but the back of the lighting platform. We could not see the stage whatsoever. The cheaper tix would have been way better. Then, we discovered that the place made you buy tickets to spend on beer/food instead of cash. This meant you had to stand in line for the tickets, then AGAIN to buy your stuff. To make it worse, they didn't mark which tent was which, so alot of people stood in line for 20 minutes to find out they were in the wrong line. By the time you got that settled, you couldn't get any beer because THEY RAN COMPLETELY OUT BY 8:30, and EC wasn't even supposed to start until 10:15 or so. Somebody did a very lousy job planning all that stuff. Finally, here came a little thunderstorm. It lasted all of 10-15 minutes. It blew over and cleared right up. My wife had the doppler radar on her phone, and we could clearly see that there wasn't any more bad weather coming. APPARENTLY, THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE AT THE STADIUM DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO DO THE SAME THING, SO THEY CANCELLED THE SHOW, even though they told us it would continue after a short break. ALOT of people were pissed off, including us. The weather was fine the entire night afterward. I suppose I will eventually get my money back from ticketmaster, but I'm still out at least $300 for gas, motel, and all that crap. I also had to leave work early to make it on time, so I've got a few hours missing from my next paycheck, too. We were really excited about seeing Eric. He seems to provide a very good show from what I have seen on Youtube. I suppose Youtube is as close as we are going to get. What a heart breaker. I have been to alot of concerts. It's my very favorite form of recreation, but I have never seen a venue do a worse job than that bunch did in Bluefield last night. I'm not going to say I will never go there again, because it is one of the few that is fairly close to me, but I certainly WAS NOT IMPRESSED with the place.

DISAPPOINTED

Traveled from Tennessee to see Eric Church and was so excited to be seeing him again in concert only to be extremely disappointed because the show was cancelled even after waiting out the bad weather. There were so many things wrong with this night after they annouced there would be a "short break" and then the show would continue.... I Have called ticketmaster twice and not really getting anywhere with them. So what is going on with the ticket refunds???

Busch League organization

First of all, I grew up in the same hometown as Eric Church and went to the same high school. I can't blame the organizers for cancelling the show...especially after the Sugarland incident. I get it and understand the need to be cautious. Anyone trying to blame Eric Church for the cancellation is just simply a moron. Eric Church did not cancel the concert nor does he control our refund. The promoter controls the cancellation. Call Mitchell Stadium or Ticketmaster. As of today the promoter has not verified to Ticketmaster if the show will be refunded or rescheduled. Ticketmaster told me if it was rescheduled I would get a refund. I am dissappointed in the hundreds of dollars I spent driving there, getting a hotel, food, gas, car overheating, etc..to see nothing as is everyone. I have to say though, this was the worst run setup for a concert I have ever seen and I will take a refund rather than go back. The main entrance where most parked and entered was about 30 feet wide. Some brainchild had tents set up for wristbands, tickets, and beers coming the exact opposite direction in conflict with people entering the stadium. That was a complete cluster f. Once in, I agree with someone else, the premium seating was a total joke. Our view was half blocked by a tent. In addition, there was no control over keeping people in their seats. So anyone who wanted to walk up to the front of the section and stand in all the open space could and that's what we planned to do since so many other people seemed to be doing it. Also, they guy checking tickets for the field access, wasn't checking tickets at all. Maybe overwhelmed, I don't know. But he had given up. I even saw a dog walking around freely? How does that happen? The mass confusion after the storm was also ridiculous. The inability of 1 person. 1 freaking person, to inform parking attendants, cops, make an announcement, etc... of the official status of the concert(cancelled) was a joke also. Another complaint, you had to get a wristband, then buy tickets, then get your drink. Really, you have to buy tickets just to buy a bottled water? When they evacuated the stadium I also had to eat $10 worth of those tickets. The folks running this particular event need to do a lot of homework before they decide to have another event. I look forward to seeing Eric in Charlotte though where there will be a lot less venue hassle.

Seating

Did anyone else know that there was going to be 15 rows of seating in the front allocated to sponsors only? I'm disappointed that the venue did not provide ticket master with an accurate seating chart. I thought I had front row tickets when I purchased my seats so it was a huge surprise to see how far back I was. I agree with some of the other posts. I would much rather take a refund and pay to see Eric at a professionally organized venue that drive 6 hours back to Bluefield for their circus!

"lives were saved....winds moved 5,000 lb wall"

everyone, please read this article. i think you all can agree after reading it that it was the right decision by the organizers to cancel this show. http://bdtonline.com/local/x546489845/High-winds-moved-stage-at-Second-C... BLUEFIELD — At about 8:15 a.m., Saturday morning, Erik Robinson, executive director of the Second Chance Learning Center was folding chairs and placing them in stacks on the turf of the June O. Shott Field at Mitchell Stadium. Friday had been a rough night. With record-high temperatures, and an outdoor concert that had been in the works for nearly a year, Robinson appeared to have a lot on his mind as he folded and stacked chairs before more volunteers along with city employees started showing up to help remove the chairs and return the stadium to top shape. He smiled, laughed at jokes, fielded questions and remained on task. He and his friend, Billy Wagner, have been remaining on task for the past few years by helping high school students to stay in school, and even helping most of them take the next step toward college or job training. “I know my name was mentioned a lot last night, and not in a good way,” Robinson said as he continued to fold and stack chairs. “These guys — Billy Wagner and Erik Robinson — saved lives last night,” Kent Martin said at about noon on Saturday, when he and members of the Bluefield High School football team were dismantling the elaborate stage and stowing it in the trailer of a semi-truck. Martin, a 30-year veteran of producing outdoor concerts, said that the stage would have to be unpacked again in Roanoke, Va., and checked for structural integrity. “The stage moved last night,” Martin, production manager of Roanoke-based SRO Productions said. “When that wind came through, it moved the stage. To tell you how strong the wind was, it moved a Jersey Wall that was beside the stage,” he said pointing to a section of concrete traditionally used to separate lanes on interstate highways. He said each Jersey Wall weighs more than 5,000 pounds. “It moved that Jersey Wall 7 feet,” he said. “That was a strong wind.” After learning about the advance of the storm with wind gusts of up to 80 miles-per-hour, the SRO crew started taking steps to secure the stage. Martin said that he cut Lee Brice’s set by 10-15 minutes, and cleared the stage at about 8:30 p.m. With the storm coming, Wagner and Robinson evacuated the stadium. “It took a lot less time to evacuate than I thought it would,” Robinson said. The concert was canceled shortly after 10 p.m. Martin said that he has worked all over the United States, and the actions on the part of Wagner and Robinson Friday night impressed him. “They put safety above all else,” Martin said. “All of us in the business are well aware of the tragedy in Indiana and at other concerts venues that ended in tragedy. After the storm moved away, we could have resumed, but I couldn’t guarantee that the structure of the stage had not been compromised. I’ve had long delays before, but never where the wind moved the stage.” Martin resumed working with the volunteers to store the stage in the trailer. “When you write your article, say something good about Billy and Erik,” he said. “They’re first-class people.”

UNPROFESSIONAL

I've been to ALOT of concerts - we average about 10 a year. This whole show was a disappointment. To start, I understand the arm band-over 21 thing. Makes perfect sense - However the whole ticket situation was a disaster. Why would anyone think this is a good idea? 1 - I'm now out of the money I spent to buy all those tickets that I didn't get to use. 2 - it caused mad confusion and also made you stand in line alot longer than you needed to, therefore missing alot more of the musicians that we did get to see.
The venue was also way to small for this large of a crowd. It was pure misery trying to move anywhere in that place.
As for the cancellation, I think we can all understand that however, I do think the article above may be exaggerting things a little bit. We had taken a taxi to the stadium, therefore we didn't have a car to run to. We ended up under the concrete bleachers. There was never enough wind to do that kind of damage.
I'm very heartbroken that it was canceled. I drove a ways to get there, took a vacation day, paid a babysitter for the whole night, had a hotel bill.....etc with the expenses. I'm not mad, just heartbroken because these concerts are vacations for my husband and I. These are the only vacations we get throughout the year.
As far as seating, I was irrate when we arrived at the show to see all those rows in front of us. We thought we had 4th row seats and according to ticketmaster, that is what was shown on the seating chart. That was very disappointing.
If a refund is offered, we will take it and see Eric Church at a more experienced venue. As excited as I was to see Eric Church for the 5th time, this venue made it miserable even before the storm ever got there.

That article is not true

"Winds moved a concrete wall that weighs over 5,000 lbs..... Moved it 7 feet...." That's absolutely false. The edge of the storm did brush the stadium, and I know it did terrible damage a little further up the road, but It was not even close to being that bad at the stadium. I stood under one of the beer tents to stay dry. It was not very sturdy and would have not withstood anything even remotely close to the wind described in that article. The show got cancelled, period. I can live with that, but why do they have to try to feed us crap like this? The truth is that they heard how bad it was on up the road and they got scared and called it off. Nothing wrong with playing it safe, but why can't they just say so instead of coming out with a story like this?

The concert was a huge dissapointment. There was no control whatsoever in the seating. The so called premium seats we had were a joke. All you could see was the back of the equipment stages and the canopies. Could only see about 1/2 inch of stage. Not to even mention the weather. I drove 2 hours and paid 150.00 to see Eric Church and the show was cancelled with no refunds. Very dissapointed fan at this point. Am seriously rethinking the Huntington show.

This will be my first Eric Church concert. I am so excited to see him. Have been a fan for a long time. Love all of his music. I apllied for a meet and greet as well, but was denied this time. I'm hoping for one at the Dec 1 show in Huntington. I plan to attend that show as well. Looking forward to seeing Eric.
